Dr Paul Martin CBE

Dr Paul Martin CBE is a security practitioner and academic with more than 30 years of front-line experience in national security. Since 2013 he has been the Director of Security for Parliament, with responsibility for the physical, personnel and cyber security of both Houses. He is stepping down from that role in September 2016, after three and a half years, to pursue other interests.

From 1986 to 2013 Paul was a UK government official in the national security arena. His roles within one of the agencies included leading national security preparations for the London 2012 Olympics, heading a precursor to the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) and working on various aspects of counter-terrorism. He was awarded the CBE in 2013, primarily for his work on the Olympics.

Before joining government service, Paul was an academic in the field of behavioural science at Cambridge and Stanford universities. He is the author of several books on related topics and is a Distinguished Research Fellow in the Institute for Security Science and Technology at Imperial College London.
