Dr Matthew Harries

Associate Fellow

Dr Matthew Harries is a Berlin-based researcher and an Associate Fellow of RUSI.

Matthew previously served on the staff of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, managing the Committee's inquiries into China's role in the international system (report published in April 2019) and skills development at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (November 2018). He is currently a Specialist Advisor to the Committee in its inquiry into the FCO's 'Global Britain' strategy.

Before working in Parliament, Matthew was Managing Editor of Survival and Senior Fellow for Transatlantic Affairs and Nuclear Policy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). Prior to that, he worked as a Research Associate at the Centre for Science and Security Studies in the Department of War Studies at King's College London. 

Matthew has previously served as a Trustee of the Verification Research, Training and Information Centre (VERTIC) and as a member of the Board of Advisors to the UK Project on Nuclear Issues (PONI) at RUSI. He holds a PhD in War Studies from King's College London and a first in Modern History and Politics from Christ Church, Oxford.
