Stephen Ball

Advisory Board

Stephen is a Director on the Board of Reliance ACSN Ltd., and a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Shearwater Group plc.  He is a Visiting Fellow at the school of Manufacturing at Cranfield University and a member of the Advisory Boards of the Royal United Services Institute and the Motorsport Industry Association.

Previously he was Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin UK from 2009 to 2015.

In 2001 he became Strategy Director on the Board of the management buy-out of Hunting Engineering.  After the business was sold to Lockheed Martin in 2005 he was appointed Managing Director and led the transition into Lockheed Martin UK.

Stephen has more than 40 years’ experience in engineering and management in both UK industry and government.  He has been a practicing engineer for the majority of that time and is best described as an engineer who understands business.

During his career he served 21 years with HM Government Communications Centre (HMGCC) working on specialist development and manufacture of security and communications equipment.  He played a major role in the establishment of HMGCC as a trading agency and led it as CEO before leaving to join the management buyout of Hunting Engineering.

Stephen served a Student Apprenticeship with Wellworthy who were part of the Associated Engineering group, during which he obtained a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Plymouth University.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science from Plymouth University in 2013.
