Organised Crime has been established as a threat to UK National Security and the government has made a clear and significant commitment to address it. But organised crime also affects UK interests beyond our borders; military operations in Afghanistan are a clear illustration. With increasing calls for international engagement in Syria – a conflict permeated by organised crime – questions of whether this threat should be considered within future mission planning will become more salient and more pressing.
The briefing will be chaired by Charlie Edwards, Director of National Security and Resilience Studies at RUSI and confirmed speakers include:
• Peter Roberts, Senior Research Fellow in Sea Power and Maritime Studies, RUSI
• Sara Batmanglich, Independent International Consultant, Batmanglich Consulting
• Marcus Lenzen, Senior Conflict Adviser, UK Department for International Development
• Bianca Jinga, Governance Adviser, UK Department for International Development
