In April 2011, Nigeria held national legislative and presidential elections. Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan won a second term, thus securing a mandate for the next five years. Nigeria’s status as an African superpower is undisputed; and Nigeria is also becoming a major player in global security, finance and development. Thus, internal developments in Nigeria, particularly with regard to current security challenges, are of international significance. General Azazi will offer his perspectives on the elections, Nigeria’s national security strategy, and challenges facing the ECOWAS/ECOMOG regional grouping. He will also discuss Nigeria-UK relations.
